“God can take our mess and turn it into His message of hope for others.” Ted Nellis
Ted Nellis is an author, speaker and ministry representative with New Life Prison Ministries.
As an itinerant speaker, Ted has shared his incredible story of redemption in churches as well as federal and provincial institutions throughout Southern Ontario and much of Eastern Canada as well. Over the years Ted has been an invited guest on many radio shows, both faith and non-faith based, locally, in Ontario, and nationally on syndicated talk radio out of New York and Los Angeles, California. Ted was interviewed live on a one-hour broadcast of the Frank Sontag Show, one of the most listened to Christian radio shows in California.
Whether speaking to a general audience in church or in a chapel service in a penitentiary, or to youth, Ted can easily engage and relate to all audiences, young and old, faith and non-faith based, due in part to his wide and varied life experiences. Ted has lived life on “both sides of the track,” and brings a lot to the table when sharing about his life. Ted owned and operated a successful janitorial business for twenty-five years. He is also a convicted bank robber, pool room hustler and street kid.
“Ted is an accomplished author and speaker who shares his dramatic story of life-change as a former bank robber changed through a powerful and unusual encounter with God. His story is heartwarming, humorous and engaging and is sure to bring enjoyment to all audiences.” New Life Prison Ministry
Ted’s first book, an autobiography, titled Journey to Redemption, was published in 2013. It enjoyed a full year of shelf life in bookstores across Canada and then found it’s way into prisons. To date, it is in almost every provincial and federal institution in Canada, from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island and as far north as Nunavut. Over 2,500 copies of Journey to Redemption have now been donated to prison ministry.
Ted’s second book, The Company We Keep, was published in 2016 by New Life Prison Ministries. Over 2,500 copies are now in print and are being used as a stand-alone study and a bible study in 110 institutions across Canada. Ted has also begun writing a brief devotional for New Life, which is distributed quarterly to chaplains across Canada who can then print off as many copies as is necessary for those incarcerated. Ted is certain that one or two more books will be forthcoming in the future.
When not writing and speaking, Ted enjoys spending time with his kids and grandkids or relaxing with a good book in his favourite bookstore—Chapters.
“Ted is a trophy of God’s grace.” Pastor Ken Miles
